Rades, Tunisia

This city is our home for now. It's located 9 km (around 6 miles) from the capital Tunis. It's not far, but since we don't have a car, we didn't go to Tunis yet. I was in Tunisia for my vacation two years ago. I was in the tourist area, and I didn't go far from our hotel so I couldn't get the real picture of this country.  What makes one place good or bad, pretty or ugly, are not the buildings, streets, stores, but people who live there. What makes you fall in love or hate one town, mostly are people who you get in touch with and the way they treat you. To get a real feeling of one country  is to get involved with its culture. This is Africa. We didn't know what to expect from this place. We have been to five continents already, so we have seen a lot of different cultures. We are easy to adapt. Sometimes it's easier (when we just blend in from the beginning ), and sometimes it's harder (when we need some time to get used to everything).  Whe...

No kissing, pleaseee...

Hi there! This is something I really wanted to write about since the second day we got here.  I know every country has its own ways of greeting people, and I'm ok with that. Culture is something special that makes every country unique. In Serbia, we kiss three times on cheeks (each time different cheek) when we say hello or bye to someone we know. In Tunisia, they kiss two times the same way. So, I'm used to kissing like that.  What I'm not used to, and not ok with, is how they greet small babies. They kiss them on the cheeks too! Even strangers do that. When Tunisians see a baby, their first reaction is: "Oh, hi baby. You are very cute! Let me kiss you!" ( I don't understand Arabic, but my guess is they are saying something like this.) You would see most random people approach babies like this.  It's ok to kiss the baby on the hand, shoulder, or perhaps the head, but not on the cheeks.  I know they don't mean anything bad, since they are...

Hello again!

Hi everybody! It's been too long since my last post and so much happened since then. My last post was while I was pregnant, and for some reason I didn't feel like writing after that. I don't know really why. I knew I wanted to continue writing, but at the right time. I think that time is now. :) For you, who don't know, we got a beautiful baby girl Nina who is almost one. It's crazy how fast time goes by. I am not going to write a lot for my first post. It kind of feels weird writing again after so much time being off. We are currently in Tunisia. After Japan (where we were for my last posts), we moved to Hungary for some time and back to Serbia. So, hello again! :) I will try to write as often as I can, and be regular in here. Cohadarevic's family The only good looking picture so far :)
